The Memoir of Dr. Matsumot Zun

Abstract
When Matsumoto Zun(1832-1907) was 70 years old, he distributed his memoir ¡ºNanchu¡» to guests who came to his birthday party. After several years, his memoir was published serially on newsparper. This translation was based on the ¡ºMatsumoto Zun Ziden¡»edited by Heibon Publisher in 1970.
Matsumoto Zun was a pioneer of introducing Western medicine to Japan. He studied Western Medicine from Pompe, a navy doctor of Netherland, who had been sent to Nakasaki in 1857. He was the representative of the medical school and helped establishing hospital where students were able to study Western medicine. He became the superintendent-general of military doctor and solidified the military doctor system of Japan.
